You may be wondering how this can be possible, considering that you’ve probably been shopping in retail stores for years – paying full price for just about everything. So, before we go any further, I want to give you an example of just how simple it is to cash in today!
For retail “buying” purposes…let’s look at two basic types of store retailers that you deal with almost every day….small family-owned businesses and major chains.
Let’s discuss a few examples of how to get discounts from small family-owned retailers. First of all, these small business owners tend to have little money and a strong motivation to sell. They’re considered “motivated sellers.” For them…every sale is a matter of life and death. Most of the time, all you have to do is ask for 10 or 20% off the price. More often than not, they’ll ACCEPT your offer just to make a sale! You can also ask for volume discounts if you buy two or more items. Some will give you discounts if they notice that you purchase from them over and over. To get these discounts you have to make sure you talk with the owner, store manager or other decision maker.
Retail chains are a different animal. Big chains give a whole slew of discounts. By talking to a store manager or some other decision maker, you can get discounts on overstocks, bruised merchandise and out-of-season or discontinued items. Retailers also grant discounts for volume purchases and corporate customers. You can even convince store employees to let you buy merchandise using their store employee discount once you know how. The majority of discounts you can get aren’t even advertised! You just have to know what to ask for and how to ask for it!
Of course like anything in life…there are exceptions. In rare instances, you’ll come across stubborn retailers who refuse to budge on their prices. With these “sellers”, you can usually barter. This is simply exchanging a product or service that you possess or have access to…in exchange for their item. And in very rare cases, the retailer is just plain trying to rip you off and you’re better off shopping elsewhere or not buying the item in the first place.
